BOSNIAN PRESIDENCY MEMBERS MET WITH EU COMMISSIONER FOR SCIENCE AND RESEARCH

SARAJEVO, Bosnia (October 8,2007) – The members of the Bosnian Presidency Haris Silajdzic and Zeljko Komsic,and Head of Nebojsa Radmanovic’s Cabinet Miroslav Vujicic,met in Sarajevo with the EU Commissioner for Science and Research Janez Potocnik.

”Science and research are key factors to Bosnia's development. We have a strategy of scientific and technological development, made by the Bosnian Academy of Arts and Sciences. Our goal is to keep the pace with the EU, especially keeping in mind the fact that other neighboring countries have already progressed in the sector”, the Bosnian Presidency Chairman Zeljko Komsic stated.

Potocnik presented the Bosnian Presidency members with the summit the EU has been preparing. The Commissioner added that Bosnia and the entire Balkan region need a good strategy and the law on science.

Officials emphasized at the meeting that a country’s association to the EU enables building of all the capacities: universities, school systems, participation in scholarships and funds. All that means being able to stand on one’s own feet and ensuring a prosperous development of the society as a whole,they said.
