FORMER BOSNIAN ARMY SOLDIER SEFIK ALIC ACQUITTED OF WAR CRIMES CHARGES

SARAJEVO, Bosnia (April 14,2008) - The Trial Panel of the Bosnian State Court has delivered the verdict acquitting a former Bosnian Army soldier Sefik Alic of committing the criminal offence of War Crimes against Prisoners of War.

The former assistant commander of "Hamze" Battalion with the 505th Buzim Brigade of the Fifth Corps of the Bosnian Army was charged with having participated, together with other members of the Battalion and Al Harbi Tewfik,an irregular soldier and a citizen of Saudi Arabia, over whom Alic had effective control, on 5 August 1995, in the "Oluja" military operation when four members of the genocidal Serbian aggressor's formations were captured by the Bosnian Army and killed.

Sefik Alic was also acquitted of the charges that based on the principle of command responsibility he failed to take all necessary and reasonable steps in order to ensure further safety of the prisoners, including the failure to prevent Al Harbi Tewfik from having contact with the prisoners or to punish him considering the fact that Al Harbi Tewfik killed all four prisoners.

The Bosnian State Court also issued a decision terminating prohibitive measures imposed on Alic on October 3, 2007.
