SARAJEVO, Bosnia (September 22,2008) - Croatia will conduct an Article IV Inspection of a military site in Bosnia from 22 to 26 September.This will be the 300th inspection mission according to the Dayton Peace Accords Annex 1 B, which covers the measures for Sub-Regional Arms Control under its Article IV,the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) said.
It will also be the 600th single inspection of a military facility which was conducted on the territories of the four Parties: Bosnia,Croatia, Montenegro and the genocidal Serbia.
"The Parties have reached a high level of competence and conduct the mutual inspections in a professional and thorough manner and confirmed in inspection reports that the number of notified heavy weapons in the region is in accordance with the agreed limitations," said Brigadier General Costanzo Periotto, the Personal Representative of the Chairman-in-Office for Article IV.
"These activities resulted in more transparency, openness and confidence between the Parties."
At the 1995 OSCE Ministerial Council in Budapest, OSCE participating States decided to designate a Personal Representative of the Chairman-in-Office to assist the parties in the former Yugoslavia in their negotiations and implementation of peace and arms control agreements.
Inspection activities by the Parties began in August 1996 after the Agreement on Sub-Regional Arms Control was signed in Florence, Italy. It was agreed that for the purpose of ensuring verification of compliance with the provisions of the Agreement each Party should facilitate these inspections in line with detailed inspection rules which are covered by special procedures in protocols to the Agreement.

SEMINAR ON SECURITY POLICY AND REGIONAL COOPERATION HELD IN SARAJEVO
SARAJEVO, Bosnia (March 8,2008) – A two.day seminar was held on Thursday and Friday in the Bosnian capital Sarajevo, focusing on security policy and cooperation. The seminar was entitled “Security Policy from the Perspective of Regional Cooperation in the Southeastern Europe”, organized by the Bosnian Foreign Affairs Ministry and Centre for Safety Policy from Geneva.
The Bosnian Foreign Affairs Minister Sven Alkalaj held the introductory speech and thanked the organizers of the project.
He emphasized that regional cooperation is an impetrative in the situation which is full of security challenges and threats.
”Regional cooperation has always been one of the top priorities of the Bosnian foreign policy and our goal is to strengthen it further on the basis of joint interests, equality and mutual respect”, Minister Alkalaj said.
He in that sense emphasized pleasure over the election of Sarajevo for the Regional cooperation Council (RCC) HQs.
OSCE Head of Mission to Bosnia Ambassador Douglas Davidson addressed the participants as well. He talked about the importance of cooperation in the sector of security for the purpose of a successful resentment to the global threats,
”Justice and mutual respect and cooperation are the basic values of the OSCE concept of the European safety. I hope that they will also become the basis of the region’s policy”, Ambassador Davidson stated.

WORKBOOK ON HERITAGE OF BOSNIAN NATIONAL MINORITIES PRESENTED IN SARAJEVO
SARAJEVO, Bosnia (March 3,2008) – “The increased focus on national minorities in mainstream education will increase the visibility of national minority issues in Bosnia, and create space for a new voice in Bosnian society and politics”, said Claude Kieffer, Director of OSCE Mission to Bosnia Education Department, at the meeting in Vogosca.
The representatives of the OSCE, the Office of the High Commissioner on National Minorities, 17 national minorities, Ministries of Civil Affairs, Human Rights and Refugees, and Education, as well as CIVITAS attended the launch of the project on the development of a Student Workbook on the Origins, Culture, Heritage and Traditions of the National Minorities of Bosnia.
The aim is to develop an informative and engaging teaching aid, which will consist of a workbook and a supplementary CD/DVD about the culture and ethnic diversity of the country, for pupils of grades 4 to 6.
“The envisioned workbook will provide the national minorities with an exceptional opportunity to present their rich cultural heritage to the youth of Bosnia”, stated Kieffer.
“National minorities’ representatives will form a Working Group, and develop the Student Workbook with an experienced textbook writer. Their contribution will be fully taken into account, as it should be in projects such as this,” Kieffer said.
It is planned that the material from the Workbook will be used as a part of the existing school curriculum by the end of 2008/2009 school year. Primary school teachers will be trained to use the textbook as supplementary material to be embedded in a number of existing disciplines, such as History, Geography, and Civic Education.
The project was developed by the OSCE Mission to Bosnia.

BOSNIAN PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION ATTENDS OSCE PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY SESSION IN VIENNA
VIENNA, Austria (February 22,2008) – A delegation of the Bosnian Parliament, lead by First Deputy Speaker Semsudin Mehmedovic is attending the annual OSCE Parliamentary Assembly session in Vienna, from February 21 to 23.
At this year’s session, participants are to discuss Kosovo independence proclamation and reaction of other countries, members of OSCE.
The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly will also debate current issues relating to OSCE activities.The Conventional Armed Forces Treaty will also be discussed.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE was established in 1990. The primary task of the 320 member Assembly is to promote parliamentary involvement in the activities of the OSCE and to facilitate inter-parliamentary dialogue and co-operation, important aspects of the overall effort to meet the challenges of democracy throughout the OSCE area.
