SARAJEVO, Bosnia (June 2,2008) - The Bosnian State Court has convicted three Serbian war criminals of war crimes committed against Bosnian civilians during the 1992-1995 Serbian aggression against Bosnia and sentenced them to between 11 and 31 years in prison.
The Bosnian State Court said judges have sentenced Serbian war criminals Zeljko Mejakic to 21 years, Momcilo Gruban to 11 and Dusko Knezevic to 31 years in prison for murder, torture, sexual assault and inhuman confinement of Bosnian civilians in the summer of 1992.
Serbian war criminal Zeljko Mejakic,44, and Serbian war criminal Momcilo Gruban,47,were commanders of the notorious Omarska concentration camps near the northern Bosnian town of Prijedor in the early stages of the 1992-1995 Serbian aggression against Bosnia. Serbian war criminal Dusko Knezevic regularly entered Omarska and another concentration camp to beat and murder detained Bosnian civilians.
The Bosnian State Court said that more than 7,000 Bosnian civilians were systematically captured, taken and arbitrarily confined by the genocidal Serbian fascist aggressor at Omarska, Keraterm and Trnopolje concentration camps. The detained Bosnian civilians were held in inhumane conditions and subjected to grave physical, psychological and sexual mistreatment.
In Omarska alone, 3,000 Bosnian civilians were held without adequate food or drinking water. The detainees were exposed to murder, torture and humiliation on daily basis. The three convicted Serbian war criminals were found to have personally taken part in killings.
