EMPLOYEES OF OSA, SIPA AND STATE BORDER POLICE OF ASK FOR HIGHER SALARIES

SARAJEVO, Bosnia (April 14,2008) – Coordination Board of unions registered at the state level which counts between 22.000 and 23.000 workers, invited representatives of state authorities to adopt the changes on the law on salaries and benefits of temployees in the Bosnian state institutions.

Coordination Board in which among others are union of the Bosnian Taxation Authority, the Bosnian state border police, the Bosnian State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) , the Bosnian State Intelligence Agency (OSA) and union of state and police officers and employees in institutions, judiciary and public institutions, believes that such draft law is unfavorable for workers in the Bosnian state institutions and that around 6.000 of them would according to this law have even lower salaries.

President of the union of the Bosnian Taxation Authority, Mehmedalija Osmic on stated that the unions of workers in the Bosnian state institutions even prior to this asked the increase of salaries by 25 %, adding that current salary of the customs officer is between 500 and 600 Bosnian Marks and state inspector about 1.000 Bosnian Marks.

He pointed out that the coordination board of unions at the state level is ready to have thorough talks with authority representatives on the changes to the mentioned law on salaries and added that there are some promises that some delegates in Bthe Bosnian Parliament will propose changes and amendments to this law.

"In case this law at the end gets to be adopted as it is, we shall go on strike, and that is by no means our intention, since citizens are the one to suffer from this”, stated Osmic and added that in case of strike all unions in coordination will be united and there will be no separate strikes.
